Last update to 'old' Region 13 !

Greetings to the full Region 13 as we split into three regions for Europe.  Somewhat making my life easier as I won't be responsible for 53 countries any more!  Welcome to Eda & Edlira from Albania who will be looking after the new Region 15 = Central and South East Europe.  Whilst I have Western Europe still as Region 13, plus the new Region 14 = the Baltics until we get a coordinator there.  However we are all one happy family in IAWP and I'll carry on with whatever comes my way.  Currently planning Cardiff 2015 with colleagues from IAWP and South Wales Police.  If you have any ideas about training or events you want to see included, please don't hesitate to get back to me on my conference email = julia@iawp2015.org.

Since my last blog I have been to USA twice for IAWP.  First in March to New York with President Jane Townsley and 2nd Vice president Stephanie Harding to run a seminar with the UK Branch of UN Women on the role of Policewomen in international policing. Some of which you know about from the UN Police delegations at IAWP conferences and the magazine articles.  This was part of the annual UN conference on the Commission of the Status of Women.  This year focussing on the education of women and girls.  A first for IAWP tp be a part of it and greaat to see local members from New York, New Jersey and Boston in person supporting us.  At the end of MArch we took part in a follow up meeting for UN Women members in the UK held in the historic palace of Westminster which is part of Parlaiment.  Another first for us.   It was a sell out event and almost standing room only!

The Early Board meeting was held in Las Vegas this year with a good attendance of Board members from around the globe.  Amongst other matters, the new regions were discussed, as was the budget ( it balances), need for a bid for the 2016 conference, a possible book of member's career stories to raise funds, who receives the Heritage Award, help for coordinators with family issues, IAWP history and the centenary in 2015 plus some training on strategic planning.  The full minutes will be in the Members section in the near future.

This was followed by a two day regional conference put on by Fabian Brown, Tamia Dow and Janet Wilson.   Including good training on leadership, gender issues, case studies and human trafficking amongst other topics.  A raffle raised over $3000 dollars towards another IAWP scholarship so hopefully two ladies can attend conference and not one this time.  Jane Townsley is running three 10ks to raises more scholarship funds and would appreciate you sponsoring her if you can.  Her contact details are in the magazine.

Our next activity is the Global Summit in June being held in London and chaired by the UK Foreign Secretary, William Hague, focussing on Post Conflict Sexual Violence.  IAWP will have a stand in the exhibition area to highlight what we and our members can contribute to stamping this out and investigating cases.  As well as offering training through our conferences.  Should be very interesting.

On behalf of the British Association for Women in Policing I have submitted seven of their award winners to the IAWP Award scheme.  Some fantastic ladies doing amazing things at work!  Will we keep up our success rate of at least one IAWP award recipient every year?  Can I assist you submit a nomination from your country?  Although closed for this year, what about next year?  Do you know someone who deserves recognition?  They don't have to be a member to be nominated .

I hope you enjoy reading this and are planning to come to Winnipeg in September.  If there's anything else you need to know, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Julia
